Asics Gel-Kayano 23 - Black, Silver, Safety Yellow

Review of the Asics Gel-Kayano 23

Gel-Kayano's are a very popular road running shoe offered by the Asics brand and is of the stability category. In its 23 iteration Asics made some improvements from its predecessor and are for the better.
As always starting with the upper we have a completely redesigned engineered mesh which gives the shoe structure and support with minimal overlays. It is also very durable. After around 100 miles, I have no issues with the durability and support provided by the upper.
The heel has a plastic counter which gives it support but is rather stiff in my opinion and the internal heel liner is also a bit slippery. It is for this reason I had to use the ankle locking technique to get a better lockdown.
The midsole features their Flytefoam as well as the gel technology for better cushioning and responsiveness. Being a stability shoe it also has their Dynamic Duomax foam underneath the arch which is stiffer than the rest of the midsole. The mid-sole is really durable as it does not flatten out easily after runs. It has a heel to toe difference of 10mm.
The outsole is full rubber and is really durable. It does not have aggressive lugs so I would not suggest this shoe for off-road or trail running.
Although the fit and feel of the shoe is great, it is really heavy shoe in my opinion. In-spite of it reducing weight from the previous versions, it is still not light enough for me i felt.
So to sum it all up we have great cushioning and support provided by this shoe. If you don't mind the extra weight you can really look at this shoe for your next pair of running shoes.

Here's my video of the review of the Asics Gel-Kayano 23.
